Music is a huge part of our lives, our society, our culture. We love it. It defines whole periods of our past and narrates our daily routines. Many of us grew up wishing we could be rock stars, envying their freedom, their version of the American dream. Every day of the week in the live music capitol of the world musicians put their emotional, creative, and financial resources on the line to pursue this dream. Mike Dubose is one of them.
The images in this portfolio document the making of the album, “Head Above Water.” I followed Mike into the recording studio with his band and watched as his plans suddenly fell apart. A vital band member couldn’t cut it. The fate of the album was in question. Mike spent the next six months honing his solo act before returning to the studio to record what turned out to be a very different album. Now it is done and there are still no guarantees.
